How can I record a full or partial Refund?

You can create a refund directly from an existing transaction. Both full and partial refunds are supported and reduce your spending in statistics and budgets instead of counting as income.

Creating a refund

  1. Open the Transactions tab and find the original transaction.
  2. Swipe right on the transaction and tap the arrow icon, or long-press the transaction and select Refund from the context menu.
  3. The transaction form opens with the opposite transaction type, the original amount, and today’s date.
  4. For a full refund, leave the amount unchanged. For a partial refund, enter the amount you received back. However, the refund amount cannot exceed the original transaction amount.
  5. Adjust any other details as needed and tap Save.

How are full refunds handled?

For a full refund, the original transaction remains in your transaction history, and a new transaction records the refund. Both are excluded from statistics and budgets, but continue to affect your account balances.

For example, a €20 expense followed by a €20 refund results in no spending or income being counted in statistics and budgets.

How are partial refunds handled?

For a partial refund, the original expense is split into the remaining cost and the refunded portion. A separate transaction records the refund.

For example, if you originally spent €20 and receive €15 back, you will see three entries:

  • €5 expense: Your remaining cost, included in statistics and budgets.
  • €15 expense: The refunded portion, excluded from statistics and budgets.
  • €15 refund: The money received back, also excluded from statistics and budgets.

This keeps your account balances correct while counting only the €5 remaining cost toward your spending. The remaining expense stays on the original transaction date while the refund uses the date selected when creating it, which defaults to today.

What happens if the original transaction is recurring?

The refund applies only to the selected occurrence. Future occurrences keep their original amount and recurring schedule.
